It was November 2013 when Profoto launched its moonlight Profoto B1, a totally revolutionary concept of freeing studio lights from power cords. This made us to sit up and think and how it would change our photography. The prohibitive cost of the lights kept us waiting for a while and when we finally picked it up we fully indulged in it.
Profoto has been our sole lighting system since 2014. The lights freed us from the quagmire of cords and recycle time. We would be up and running in any situation. The large body of work we carried out in swimwear was mainly as a result of the Profoto system. We quickly added a lot of B1 systems in our gear and the images excelled from every conceptual stuff we tried out.
Considering India and the nature of spaces especially in crowded urban spaces, Profoto lights were easily the best to rig it up quickly and move on to the next location. We played around with a lot of concepts of mixing ambient light with strobes, long exposures with strobes, rim lights using the modeling lamps etc., Every time the results were consistent with our vision.
We now have a bunch of lights ranging from Profoto from B1X, B2 and now the A1. The impeccable build quality of the Profoto modifiers adds this beauty lighting systems.
We are not commissioned by Profoto (hope to soon..) and our experience with these lights does not come with a caveat that we are paid to do so. As photographers one tool, which pushes, the boundary of creating images is a good lighting system. Profoto is worth the investment.
